Monthly Blessings -September

Seva Updates from the Heart of Vrindavan

Celebrating Divine Love in the Sacred Land of Braj

September brought some of the most cherished celebrations of the year to Radha Kunda — the appearance days of Sri Krishna and Srimati Radharani.

Amidst this beauty, the quiet rhythm of seva continues.

This Month in Vrindavan During these sacred festivals, the temples of Braj were adorned with flowers, lamps were offered in devotion, and the holy land was filled with the joyful remembrance of Radha and Krishna. Our beloved Radha Madhan Mohan Mandir was no different, decorated by the loving hands of our widows and Brajavasi community.

The monsoon rains continued to bring fresh life to Govardhan's forests and sacred waters, while our widows and Brajavasi caretakers lovingly carried on their daily service.

It was a month of beautiful contrasts: the splendor of festival worship and the simplicity of a hand-rolled chapati, the glow of an offering lamp and the quiet sweeping of an ancient pathway.

We are grateful to share these moments with you, whose generosity helps sustain this living tradition of care and devotion.

Celebrating Sri Krishna Janmashtami: Welcoming the Appearance of the Lord of Vrindavan

Janmashtami, the sacred appearance day of Lord Sri Krishna, is among the most joyful occasions in the Vaishnava calendar. Throughout Vrindavan, people celebrate with prayers, offerings, beautiful decorations, and remembrance of Krishna's divine childhood pastimes.

For the residents of Braj, Krishna is their beloved Shyamasundara, the cowherd boy who wandered through these forests, played upon His flute, and filled the hearts of the Vrajavasis with divine love. At Radha Madan Mohan Mandir, the Deities were beautifully dressed for the occasion, with Sri Madan Mohan adorned in a radiant yellow outfit.

The golden tones of the altar and the festive decorations brought a special warmth to the temple, where worship and offerings marked this auspicious celebration.

Janmashtami reminds us of the extraordinary sweetness of Vrindavan, where the Supreme Lord is loved not for His majesty, but as a son, a friend, and the beloved of His devotees.

It is this spirit of loving service that inspires our work throughout the year.

Sri Radhashtami: Honoring Srimati Radharani in Her Beloved Radha Kunda Radhashtami honors the divine appearance of Srimati Radharani, the eternal beloved of Sri Krishna and the embodiment of the highest love and devotion.

For our community, this day holds special significance.

Our daily service takes place in Radha Kunda, the sacred place revered by Gaudiya Vaishnavas as especially dear to Srimati Radharani. Here, the atmosphere of devotion is woven into everyday life, from the prayers offered along the ghats to the humble service performed by the local residents. For the celebration, the temple was decorated with colorful garlands and festive ornaments.

Sri Madan Mohan and the Deities were dressed in beautiful purple garments, surrounded by flowers and the warm glow of the altar.

Special worship included ceremonial bathing and offerings of lamps, with devotees gathering to offer their prayers.

Radhashtami reminds us that Srimati Radharani is the very embodiment of loving service. To care for Her sacred home and the people who have dedicated their lives to living there is, for the widows, a very sacred opportunity.

A Radhashtami Feast for the Widows

In honor of Srimati Radharani's appearance day, the ladies gathered for a special feast, enjoying freshly prepared prasadam together.

Seated in long rows, they received their meals with the familiar warmth of a community that has shared so many years of prayers, festivals, and daily life.

For women who have experienced hardship, the opportunity to gather, celebrate, and be lovingly cared for is a meaningful expression of dignity and belonging. Through the kindness of our donors, Radhashtami became another occasion to offer the ladies something special.

Sharing Sweetness and Abundance

Along with the feast, the widows received generous plates of fresh fruit and sweets.

Bananas, apples, and other treats were arranged and distributed to the ladies, who gathered beneath the colorful decorations of the temple pavilion.

Some smiled brightly and raised their hands in joyful greeting, while others sat together enjoying the festivities.

These moments of happiness are among the most treasured parts of our service.

We are deeply grateful to everyone whose generosity helped make this Radhashtami celebration possible.

The Widows' Seva at Radha Kunda

Beyond the kitchen and the temple gatherings, another beautiful form of service continues each day quietly.

Our widows help care for the ancient ghats, pathways, and sacred shrines surrounding Radha Kunda.

The ladies can be seen sweeping the stone steps beside the holy waters, collecting discarded flowers and litter, and carefully tending the entrances to historic places of worship.

For pilgrims, the ghats of Radha Kunda are places of prayer, remembrance, and sacred bathing. Throughout the day, flower offerings accumulate along the steps, making regular cleaning an important part of caring for the area.

The widows' work helps keep these spaces welcoming and preserves their beauty for everyone who visits.

Their service also offers a meaningful connection to the sacred place they call home. Among the cherished locations cared for by the ladies is the sacred sitting place of Sri Jahnava Thakurani.

Revered in the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition, Jahnava Thakurani was the consort of Lord Nityananda and an influential spiritual guide whose devotion and compassion continue to inspire generations of devotees.

Her pilgrimage to Vrindavan is remembered with great reverence, and her sitting place near Radha Kunda remains a treasured place of remembrance.

Govardhan in the Monsoon

September is a particularly beautiful time around Govardhan Hill.

The rains bring fresh greenery to the rocky slopes, trees spread their leafy branches over the pathways, and the forests surrounding the sacred kundas become lush and vibrant.

Yet the same rains that nourish the landscape also create additional challenges for its preservation.

Vegetation grows quickly, litter collects along the pathways, and the steps surrounding the kundas require constant care.

Throughout September, our local Brajavasi team continued its daily work across the Govardhan region, sweeping forest paths, clearing discarded materials, and maintaining the surroundings of ancient temples and sacred waters.

Month after month, your support brings light into the lives of those who have often been forgotten. You help ensure that the widows of Radha Kunda are not only fed and clothed, but also honored. That the land of Vrindavan is not only walked upon, but cherished. Thank you, RadhaSeva Team.
