She needs your sponsorship.

Lakshmi has lived in Radha Kunda for many years and has been a part of RadhaSeva for over seven years. With our community, she cleans Radha Kunda and Shyama Kunda along with her adult daughter.

Lakshmi

HER JOURNEY

Lakshmi was born into a poor village in West Bengal and had few resources within her family.
Her family was unable to offer her the opportunity for an education, as they did not have the income necessary, and instead, she was married to a man significantly older in age when she was still only a youth, with the hopes that she could have a better life.

She worked within the local village until the death of her husband. Having only a daughter, she did not have family members who could support or help her after her husband's death, and her in-laws were equally unable to support her.

She made the decision to move to Vrindavan to continue her spiritual practices in a safe and protected way. Unfortunately, coming to Vrindavan was more difficult than she expected, and she struggled to find real care in the ashrams available.

Eventually, she connected with us at RadhaSeva and is now truly peaceful, living a life of spirituality in her favorite place, Radha Kunda. Her daughter has recently also moved to Radha Kunda to be closer to her mother, and they now care for Radha Kunda together each day.

A Life Transformed

Lakshmi is known for her quiet smile. She carries herself with a gentle grace, moving slowly but with steady purpose. Her hands, worn with age and devotion, rested lightly on her daughter’s arm as they stood together by the waters of Radha Kunda. There was a softness about her presence, kind, humble, and quietly strong.

Like many widows who first arrive in Radha Kunda, Lakshmi’s beginning was difficult. She joined one of the crowded ashrams, where the rooms were cramped, the food was poor, and care was scarce. Life there left her feeling diminished and weary, without the comfort or dignity she longed for. She endured as best as she could, but her heart yearned for something more, for peace, belonging, and the chance to live close to the sacred waters she loved so dearly.

When she found RadhaSeva, Lakshmi felt a sense of relief. Here she could live more independently, with a private room of her own, proper medical care, and meals that nourished both body and spirit. For the first time in years, she felt truly seen and cared for. What touched her heart most, however, was that she could dedicate herself to the service of Radha Kunda and Shyama Kunda—the very places she cherished since her youth.

Every morning and evening, Lakshmi makes her way to the sacred banks of Radha Kunda and Shyama Kunda. With a calm devotion, she helps keep their waters and banks clean, offering her humble service as an act of love. Over time, her dedication inspired her daughter to join her. Today, the two of them can be seen working side by side, tending to the holy lakes with quiet reverence, a rare blessing for both mother and daughter to share in this sacred service together.

Her days flow with a peaceful rhythm. After her morning seva at the kundas, Lakshmi spends time in the local temples, chanting prayers and offering her heart to the deities. She returns to the RadhaSeva ashram to share prasadam meals with the community of widows, where she enjoys the companionship of women who understand her struggles and share her values. In the afternoons, she often returns to Radha Kunda or Shyama Kunda to sit quietly by the water, her prayer beads moving steadily through her fingers as she chants her daily mantras.

Lakshmi is deeply grateful for the life she now leads. In her words, “Radha Kunda is my heart. To live here peacefully, with friends and support, is all I could ask for.” Her days may be simple, but within them she has found profound peace: the sacred waters, the temple bells, the prayers whispered with her daughter at her side, and the strength of a community that holds her close.
