Meet Phuleshwari, a widow of Radha Kunda in Vrindavan. On this auspicious day of Radhastami, a day that celebrates our beloved Sri Radha, the Queen of Vrindavan, receive unending prosperity and good fortune by extending a gesture of divine giving to Phuleshwari and widowed women like her, who maintain Sri Radha's most sacred bathing pool, the famous Radha Kunda.
Women like Phuleshwari have been shunned by society and left to navigate their grief entirely alone. Despite extreme hardships and social stigmas against them, these women embody strength and grace under challenging circumstances. Phuleshwari was married at 12 years old without being given the opportunity for an education. After the death of her husband, she was left without care or support in her community, her son was helpless to support her in her time of extreme vulnerability and need. Instead, like many widowed women of India, she traveled thousands of miles alone to reach Vrindavan with the hope of dignity, sanctuary, and support.

Ganesh & the Widows of Vrindavan.
The Connection Between Lord Ganesha, Vrindavan, and the widows who reside here.
For centuries, the Vrajavasis of Vrindavan have held a deep reverence for Lord Ganesha, honoring him through regular darshan and worship. At the entrance of many of the original Gaudiya Vaisnava temples, established by the great Six Goswamis, you’ll find ancient, five-hundred-year-old murtis of Sri Ganeshji blessing those who enter. This tradition continues to this day, and Ganesha is recognized as the remover of obstacles and the bestower of auspiciousness.
Srila Prabhupada emphasized the importance of worshiping Lord Ganesha before offering any other form of worship, reminding us of the scriptures that call for his respect, especially on days like Ganesh Chaturthi. In the Srimad Bhagavatam, Prabhupada writes, “It is an aparadha to offer worship to the Deity without first worshiping Vaikuntha deities like Ganeshaji” (SB 7.523-24 pur.).
This tradition is deeply cherished by the widows of Vrindavan, who honor Ganesha in their daily lives. Many widows keep personal altars in their ashram rooms, lovingly offering prayers to Lord Ganesha. On Ganesh Visharjan, they come together in devotion, celebrating his divine grace, and praying for the removal of the obstacles they have faced throughout their lives.
By supporting the Widows of Vrindavan this Ganesh Visharjan, you not only honor this sacred tradition, but you also become a part of their journey towards overcoming the hardships they face, helping them live with dignity, security, and spiritual fulfillment.
The widows of Vrindavan are women who have been abandoned by society after the death of their husbands - but with your support, they don't have to be.
Together, we can care for these beautifully devotional women as they live the rest of their lives in service to Sri Krishna and His Holy Dham.
Together we can uplift the widows of Vrindavan.
