Monthly Blessings - October Seva Updates from the Heart of Vrindavan

October in Vrindavan marks the arrival of Kartik, the most sacred and celebrated month of the year. The land begins to glow with soft light, and the air fills with devotion and prayer. Every corner of Radha Kunda comes alive, lamps are lit, kirtans resound, and celebrations are heard from every home and temple.

This Month in Vrindavan With the arrival of Kartik, Vrindavan has truly come alive with devotional prayer and sacred celebration. The widows of Radha Kunda have continued their daily seva with even greater enthusiasm—cooking, cleaning, chanting, distributing meals, and preparing for the many festivals and offerings that fill this holy month.

Their steady devotion is deeply felt, as each act of service becomes an offering during this most auspicious time of year. Our Brajavasi team has also risen to meet the increased demands of Kartik, working tirelessly to maintain and protect the sacred spaces around Govardhan and Radha Kunda. With the influx of pilgrims and celebrations, their efforts in cleaning, restoration, and care ensure that these holy places remain beautiful, welcoming, and preserved for all.

Throughout it all, devotion flows continuously, filling every corner of Vrindavan with purpose and love.

First Day of Kartik (Sharad Purnima)

Kartik began under the glow of the full moon, as devotees gathered around Radha Kunda for the first offerings of ghee lamps. The widows participated by offering light, prayers, and soft kirtans.

This sacred beginning set the tone for the entire month, one of reflection, dedication, and loving service. For the widows, Kartik is an opportunity to deepen their connection to Radha and Krishna through every small act of seva.

Cleaning for Kartik: Widows Caring for Radha Kunda Kartik brings thousands of pilgrims to Radha Kunda, and with it, an increased need for constant care. Our widows worked each day tirelessly, cleaning the ghats, pathways, and sacred waters both morning and evening.

Amidst lamp offerings, flower petals, and continuous foot traffic, their service ensured that Radha Kunda remained clean, beautiful, and welcoming. Their devotion shines in this work, allowing every pilgrim to experience the sacredness of this holy place.

Widows Feasts Throughout Kartik, widows' feasts became a central expression of love and celebration. These gatherings brought together hundreds of women to share in beautifully prepared meals rich with traditional flavors, sweets, and festive dishes.

The women cook for one another with enthusiasm and care, creating moments of laughter, connection, and joy. Younger widows bring their children, allowing them to experience celebration even in times of hardship. Each feast is a sacred space cultivating dignity, community, and shared devotion in Radha Kunda.

Diwali Celebrations Diwali in Radha Kunda was filled with millions of ghee lamps, overflowing joy, and heartfelt celebration. The widows gathered together, dressed in their finest saris to light lamps, share sweets, and celebrate in a space where they are seen, honored, and included.

For many of these women, Diwali had once been a time of isolation. Now, through community and care, it has become a time of belonging and joy. The glow of their lamps reflected not only in the sacred waters of Radha Kunda but in the smiles of the women themselves. It was a truly remarkable experience for all present, and the emotional exchanges will last throughout the season. At RadhaSeva, we brought the widows and Brajavasi communities together for a celebration at Radha Madan Mohan Mandir, where gifts were distributed throughout for this most joyful occasion.

Govardhan Puja Govardhan Puja was celebrated with traditional Brajavasi style with the entire local community, and as the widows came together to honor the sacred hill of Govardhan. A beautiful Govardhan hill was prepared from prasadam offerings, and the women participated in kirtan, prayers, and a festive feast.

This celebration is especially meaningful, as Govardhan represents protection, care, and divine shelter—values reflected in the very seva these women perform daily. The atmosphere was filled with gratitude, devotion, and a sense of unity that carried through the entire community.

Gardening & Restoration for Kartik: Brajavasis Serving Govardhan With the influx of visitors during Kartik, our Brajavasi team intensified their efforts to maintain the sacred land around Govardhan and along the parikrama paths.

These spaces, blooming after the monsoon season, were kept vibrant and accessible for pilgrims. The work required constant attention, balancing growth with care, ensuring that the natural beauty of Govardhan remained intact during one of the busiest times of the year.

Month after month, your support brings light into the lives of those who have often been forgotten. You help ensure that the widows of Radha Kunda are not only fed and clothed, but also honored. That the land of Vrindavan is not only walked upon, but cherished. Thank you, RadhaSeva Team.
