Monthly Blessings - January Seva Updates from the Heart of Vrindavan
January in Vrindavan is the heart of winter. The mornings arrive wrapped in dense fog, the air remains cool throughout the day, and even the sunlight feels soft and distant. It is a time of stillness, of quiet endurance, and of deep care.
In this season, warmth becomes an offering. And through your continued support, that warmth reaches the widowed women and the sacred land they lovingly serve.
This Month in Vrindavan
As the cold settles fully over Radha Kunda and Govardhan, the rhythm of seva continues steadily, intentionally, and filled with quiet devotion.
From early morning cooking fires to the careful distribution of meals, from daily cleaning seva to ongoing land restoration, every effort carries a deeper awareness of the season. The women and Brajavasis move through the cold together, supported by community and sustained by shared purpose.
January has been a month of resilience, care, and gratitude, beginning the new year with both strength and softness.
Widows Daily Meals: Warmth in Every Offering
During the coldest days of the year, daily meals become a lifeline. Our widowed community continued to prepare and distribute hot, nourishing prasadam to over 150 women each day.
Fresh chapattis, warm rice or dhal, and hearty vegetables provide both nourishment and comfort, especially for those who struggle to cook in cold, damp conditions. To keep up spirits, we also weekly offer sweet treats and delicious savories for the widows to enjoy in addition to their daily meals.
The women gather patiently, often wrapped in shawls and huddled together by small campfires we keep at Madan Mohan Mandir, uplifted by the warmth of the food and the presence of one another.
Each meal offered to the widows this month has been filled with care, consistency, and a reminder that they are supported every single day. This sacred offering keeps up their spirits even in the most difficult of times.
Widows Seva: Devotion Through the Fog and Cold
Even in the thick morning fog, the widows continue their sacred service at Radha Kunda and Shyama Kunda.
Bundled in layers, they sweep the ghats, clean the temple spaces, and care for the sacred waters with unwavering dedication. The chill in the air does not slow their devotion; it deepens it, and their heartfelt dedication inspires all who witness them.
The widows' presence each day ensures that Radha Kunda remains clean, peaceful, and ready to receive all who come with prayer. After years of steady seva in all conditions, the local community now depends on their efforts more than ever. Their humbling work is a quiet but essential part of what keeps the Radha Kunda community going, and all the residents respect these ladies in ways they could never have previously imagined. Not only have they shown their worth, but they are a treasured aspect of Radha Kunda.
New Year Blanket Distribution: Offering Warmth and Care to the Widows of Radha Kunda
At the beginning of the new year, we were grateful to distribute warm winter blankets to all of the widowed women in our community.
As temperatures drop and the damp cold lingers, these blankets provide essential warmth and comfort, especially during early mornings and late evenings when the chill is most intense.
The women received them with deep appreciation, knowing they can rest more comfortably and continue their daily seva with greater ease. It is a simple offering, yet one that brings immediate relief and care during the coldest time of year.
To everyone who contributed to this effort, we thank you with all of our hearts.
Widows Feasts: Joyful Celebration in the Winter Season
Widows feasts continued throughout January as a highlight of the winter season. Although the cold, damp weather can make these efforts difficult for our widowed cooks, they cheerfully persevered for the greater community. These gatherings bring hundreds of women together to share in these exceptional meals that fill their bellies and their hearts.
As they care for one another, it becomes apparent to everyone just how meaningful these celebratory gatherings are, especially in the heart of winter when the difficulties of daily life can become overwhelming for widowed ladies with few resources.
These feasts are an opportunity to share joy in life and community, reminding everyone how strong the sacred bond really is here in Radha Kunda.
Brajavasi Seva: Steady Care for Govardhan in Winter
Our Brajavasi team continued their work throughout January, maintaining Govardhan’s sacred spaces with care and consistency.
From clearing trash along the parikrama paths and sacred kundas to maintaining gardens and temple surroundings, their work remains essential, especially during the quieter winter months when maintenance continues behind the scenes.
Their steady efforts preserve the beauty and sanctity of this holy land, ensuring it remains protected for both residents and pilgrims alike.
Month after month, your support brings light into the lives of those who have often been forgotten. You help ensure that the widows of Radha Kunda are not only fed and clothed, but also honored. That the land of Vrindavan is not only walked upon, but cherished.
Thank you,
RadhaSeva Team.
