Support a widowed woman's life for Kartik
Meet Rohini, a widow of Radha Kunda in Vrindavan.
During this auspicious time of Damodar Maas, a time of honoring Mother Yashoda's love for baby Krishna - Sri Damodar, receive unending prosperity and good fortune by extending a gesture of divine giving to Rohini and widowed mothers like her, who maintain Sri Radha Kunda and Shyama Kunda every day - while caring for the women in their widowed community.
Women like Rohini have been shunned by society and left to navigate their grief entirely alone. Despite extreme hardships and social stigmas against them, these women embody strength and grace under challenging circumstances. Rohini was married as a young girl without the opportunity for an education. After the sudden and unexpected death of her beloved husband, shortly following the death of her only daughter, she was left without care or support in her community.
Instead, like many widowed women of India, she traveled thousands of miles alone to reach Vrindavan with the hope of dignity, sanctuary, and support.
How Your Monthly Gift Makes a Difference
By becoming a monthly donor, you honor motherhood in its most universal form and catalyze profound changes in the lives of these deserving women by giving them a second chance at life within a community that supports and empowers them. Today Rohini has become part of our RadhaSeva community to empower widowed women and has dedicated her life to cooking for over 200 widowed women in her community and caring for Vrindavan's most treasured place, Radha Kunda. By sponsoring Rohini and women like her, you are helping transform an entire community of mothers who have otherwise been left without care.

The Significance of Damodar Month (Kartik)
The month of Kartik, also known as Damodar Maas, holds profound significance in the ISKCON tradition and is considered a time of remarkable spiritual advancement. This month is particularly dear to Lord Krishna, as it is celebrated as His favorite time of year, and it is deeply intertwined with the divine pastimes of Srimati Radharani, His eternal consort.
One of the most enchanting aspects of Kartik is the magnification of devotional service performed during this month. It is believed that any devotional activity—no matter how small—is magnified a thousand times, amplifying the spiritual benefits derived from such practices. Devotees often take vows during Kartik to deepen their spiritual practices or simplify their material needs, setting the stage for a month dedicated to enhanced devotion.
One of our favorite rituals during this time is the offering of ghee lamps, especially on Kartik Purnima. Lighting these lamps is said to burn away sins and grant the devotee access to eternal spiritual realms. This act not only honors Lord Krishna but also embodies the essence of selfless giving, which is central to the spiritual ethos of this month.
Kartik is honored as the best, the purest of purifiers, and the most glorious of all months. The effects of performing a Kartik vrata (vow) are said to last for one hundred lifetimes, making this period incredibly auspicious for spiritual seekers. Additionally, the festival of offering lamps is a beautiful remembrance of the pastimes where Lord Krishna was bound by ropes by Mother Yashoda, expressing His profound relationship with His devotees.
In essence, Kartik (Damodar) is a time filled with bhakta vatsalya—an expression of love and care for devotees. It is a month that invites everyone to engage in devotional activities, embrace the spirit of giving, and immerse themselves in the love of Lord Krishna. As we celebrate this sacred time, we are reminded of the transformative power of devotion and the endless opportunities for spiritual growth it presents.
The widows of Vrindavan are women who have been abandoned by society after the death of their husbands - but with your support, they don't have to be.
Together, we can care for these beautifully devotional women as they live the rest of their lives in service to Sri Krishna and His Holy Dham.
Together we can uplift the widows of Vrindavan.
